(Earlier still paintings by Lara Asuka and Dashiell, and by Mia)
Summer is officially over, (even on my blog), and we are really into the work, at Joans Studio School.

                                                          Wednesday's Class
is young (2-2 1/2).  Which is the same a saying they have an irrepressible joy in each other and in their work.  They have been learning to keep their colors clean by using proper procedures (washing and blotting their brushes between colors), set up, clean up, and learning to dance as a group.
Last class they got to paint on the walls.  Huge success.  Take a look.

Mia and her colorful work.  Mixing more colors.
Brush Mia?
Dashiel doing a real action painting
Dashiel at work.
Whoever asked if 2 year olds were too young to be serious about their work?
Take a look.  JUST turned 2.

Lara choosing her next color

At work, side by side on two very different pieces.
Laras light as a feather line painting. First wall painting of the year.
Dashelles bold wall painting
Students get back from their very large work and ponder my question:  "Look at your work.  What will you do next"

Thursdays Class

is made up of returning students. They are comfortable with each other and their artwork.   Check out their intense activity- on mixed media pieces, in doing drawings from nature outdoors, and on their portfolios- where I keep their flat work for the semester.  Students collage pictures of themselves and their favorite things, and then paint them.
I won't post all work- we have to have some surprises for the end of year show.  But this was such a smashing start- had to share.

and out.

Some projects just need to be done on the floor

Julian working on his portfolio
 And drawing in the courtyard
 Violet concentrating on drawing outside
and working on her portfolio- with a cast no less

What Porfolios!

(and she did this basically one handed due to a cast, with markers)
